Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has dismissed 31 officers who were found to have committed serious misconduct. Inspector General of Police Karyoto, the Chief of Polda Metro Jaya, emphasized the importance of upholding integrity and responsibility as police officers, stating that such incidents should not recur.
"Becoming a police officer is a prestigious title not easily attained," Karyoto said. "It’s crucial to dedicate oneself fully to this profession."
Among the dismissed officers, eight were involved in drug abuse cases, 15 deserted their posts, one was convicted of embezzlement, four engaged in extramarital affairs, two were involved in forced marriages, and one was involved in LGBT activities. Five of these officers were from the regional headquarters (Mapolda), while the remaining 26 were from various police stations.
Karyoto also stressed the importance of strong internal supervision within each unit. "Commanders and superiors must closely monitor and control their subordinates to prevent such incidents," he said. "We must also adhere to our respective religious teachings to guide us between right and wrong."
Polda Metro Jaya’s Public Relations Chief, Commissioner General Polsy Syam Indradi, stated that this incident serves as a lesson for all police officers. "Let this be a lesson for us all, so that such incidents do not recur," he said.
Previously, Polda Metro Jaya had conducted a similar dismissal ceremony at the Jakarta Metro Jaya Convention Hall on Thursday (2/1).
