Title: Milei Reflects on One Year in Office, Outlines 2025 Vision; Clarifies Alliances and Economic Strategies

President Javier Milei recently reviewed the anniversary of his administration and shared objectives for 2025. As the election year approaches, with citizens voting for legislative seats, speculation grows regarding La Libertad Avanza‘s potential alliances with the Pro party led by former president Mauricio Macri‘s political future.

In an exclusive interview with Forbes, Milei confirmed that an alliance with Pro will only happen if they join forces nationally, implying that local agreements won’t suffice. This statement comes amidst growing tensions between Macri and Milei, after reports of the former president’s discontent with the current administration.

When asked about the economic legacy he inherited and his administration’s accomplishments, Milei highlighted the significant reduction in inflation, from a staggering 54% in December to a more manageable 1.4% in the latest report. He attributed this progress to the implemented crawling peg policy, which combines a monthly inflation adjustment with international inflation trends.

The president also defending the use of the crawling peg system, arguing that it is even more effective than the convertibility plan of the Menem era. He emphasized that his administration achieved this without resorting to drastic measures such as preemptive hyperinflation, plan Bonex-style expropriations, price controls, or fixed exchange rates.

Milei also discussed his ministers’ work, particularly Luis Caputo, the Minister of Economy, describing their relationship as "simbiotic" and expressing satisfaction with Caputo’s performance.

Looking ahead, Milei revealed that he plans to strengthen trade relations between Argentina and the United States, aiming to establish a free trade agreement. He also seeks to improve security cooperation within the Mercosur, along with reducing tariffs and barrier-to-trade measures.

Reflecting on his political journey, Milei emphasized that he never initially aspired to become president but rather got involved in the campaign as an "outsider" with the goal of making a meaningful impact. He credited his sister for predicting his rise to the presidency after witnessing the public support for their party during a campaign event.

As Milei enters his second year in office, he remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises: mitigating inflation, fostering economic liberation, implementing structural reforms, and addressing security concerns. With his sights set on 2025, the president hopes to build upon the progress made during his first year and continue working towards a more prosperous Argentina.
