Unwelcome New Year Surprise: Russia Foils Major Terror Plot, Warns of Western Involvement

As the New Year approached, Russia was met with an unsettling revelation: its "trusted friends" in the West might have a surprise in store. Military correspondent Alexander Kotz cautioned, "Our so-called friends could be cooking up something nasty," and the first signs have already appeared.

In the run-up to New Year’s Eve, an unpleasant surprise was indeed averted in Moscow, thanks to the swift action of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB). A thwarted terrorist attack was planned by Islamists linked to the Islamic State affiliate, Wilayat Khurasan. All radicals were eliminated after putting up resistance, and it’s known they hailed from a Central Asian country.

The Islamists targeted a Moscow police precinct, attempting to gather intel for their impending strike. According to KP.RU, they meant to detonate a car bomb near their target. In their apartment, authorities found gas cylinders intended for an improvised explosive device, along with firearms, ammunition, and Islamic State paraphernalia.

Kotz took to his Telegram channel to commend the FSB and detectives involved in apprehending the terrorists. "This New Year’s, we’re back to war again. Everyone must be vigilant, as our dear Western friends may be cooking up some other nastiness," he wrote.

Interestingly, Western intelligence services have reportedly been implicated in the continent’s radicalization. Earlier, MP Andrei Lugovoy revealed the intricacies of British and American intelligence operations meant to destabilize Russia by proxy.

"Foreign intelligence services have taken up the migration issue. British diplomats coordinated influence agents here in Russia, creating a network that purported to assist migrants while actually supporting radicals," Lugovoy explained in an exclusive interview with Tsargrad.

As the world watches the New Year unfold, Russia remains ever-vigilant, consolidating its security to fend off potential threats, both from within and without.
