Man Invited to Thailand Instead Ends Up in Myanmar; Desperately Jumps into River to Escape

A shocking tale of deception and desperation has emerged from Southeast Asia. A man, hereafter referred to as Mr. Liu to protect his identity, was invited to Thailand, only to find himself in a life-threatening situation in neighboring Myanmar.

Liu, a seafood worker from China, accepted an invitation to Thailand, expecting a holiday. However, he was met by strangers at the airport who drove him away from the city, entering Myanmar without his knowledge. Realizing his predicament, he decided to take drastic measures to escape.

According to reports, Liu was forced into a car that crossed into Myanmar. When the vehicle stopped near a river, he saw his chance and jumped in, swimming across despite not knowing how to swim. He feared being taken against his will more than drowning. "I’d rather drown than go with them," he said, recounting his ordeal.

Liu managed to reach the other side, where he was rescued by passing fishermen. He then reported the incident to the Chinese embassy, and they verified his account.

This isn’t an isolated incident. In another case, a Chinese sailor was reportedly kidnapped from Thailand and taken to Myanmar, with his family receiving demands for a 100,000 yuan (around $14,700 USD) ransom.

These incidents highlight the stark reality of human trafficking in the region. Authorities are urged to beef up security and monitoring along borders to prevent such incidents.
