In Claudia Sheinbaum’s first three months as president, Mexico has seen a 0.4% decrease in gasoline prices, maintaining stability according to data from the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público.
Gabriela Jiménez Godoy, the vice-coordinator of MORENA in the Chamber of Deputies, celebrated the launch of public participation forums to construct the National Development Plan 2025-2030. She stated, "This government is proving that democracy extends beyond the ballot boxes, and these forums open the pathway for active citizen engagement in defining the country’s trajectory for the coming years."
The key elements of the plan—governance with justice, development with well-being and humanism, moral economy, and sustainable development—reflect MORENA’s core principles. Moreover, cross-cutting themes such as gender equality and the rights of indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities reinforce the government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable transformation.
Jiménez Godoy invited citizens to participate in the forums, held from January 6 to 19, both in-person and virtually via the planeandojuntos.gob.mx platform. She concluded, "This is a historic opportunity for us all to contribute to building a more just, fraternal, and sustainable Mexico. Let’s seize this chance to voice our vision for the future."
Record of the Fourth Transformation in gasoline price reduction:
Jiménez Godoy highlighted that gasoline prices have remained below the accumulated inflation rate since October 2019. Furthermore, diesel prices decreased by 11.03% in real terms under López Obrador and Claudia Sheinbaum’s governments, whereas they increased by 57.6% and 40.3% during the Calderón and Peña Nieto administrations, respectively.
She asserted that the Fourth Transformation’s (4T) accomplishments in gasoline price reduction and stabilization contrast starkly with the exorbitant increases witnessed during previous PRI and PAN administrations. "While neoliberal governments prioritized private interests, burdening families’ budgets, the 4T has fulfilled its commitment to prevent real increases in fuel prices," Jiménez Godoy said.
Expressing skepticism about recent PAN and PRI critiques of gasoline prices, she deemed their actions an attempt to manipulate public opinion while omitting their historical record of gasolinazos and insufficient infrastructure investment.
Meanwhile, the 4T’s strategy has maintained prices below the accumulated inflation rate and ensured competitiveness with international levels. Currently, Mexico’s average gasoline price is lower than that in countries like Spain, Germany, or Italy, affirming the government’s commitment to Mexican families’ economies and responsible resource management.
