Tragic Christmas: Recognized Professor and Sister of Rio Negro Judge Killed in Accident
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the city of Cipolletti is mourning the loss of Anabel Apcarian, a renowned professor at the UNCo, who was involved in a fatal accident on the evening of December 23rd. The 48-year-old educator was driving with her 8-year-old daughter when their vehicle was struck by another car, according to initial reports.
The accident occurred around 4:00 PM on Provincial Route 65, between J.J. Gómez and Guerrico. The collision involved a Renault Logan driven by Apcarian and her daughter, and a Volkswagen Virtus driven by a 69-year-old woman from General Roca. While the driver of the other vehicle and Apcarian’s daughter were hospitalized but are expected to recover, Anabel Apcarian succumbed to her injuries.
Apcarian was widely respected in the educational community, known for her engaging teaching style and dedication to her students. Her brother, Ricardo Apcarian, is a distinguished judge on the Superior Tribunal of Justice of Río Negro, currently serving as one of the five vocational judges and the magistrate referral for the Fourth Judicial Circuit based in Cipolletti.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, with experts examining both vehicles and reconstructing the events leading up to the collision. The exact cause remains unclear, although early indications suggest a "malicious maneuver" may have been involved.
This tragic loss comes amidst a series of recent accidents in the region, casting a shadow over the holiday season. Earlier that day, a devastating collision on Ruta 22 claimed the lives of a couple from San Luis, while their Cipoleño survivor remains in critical condition at Villa Regina Hospital.
The city of Cipolletti and the broader Río Negro community express their deepest condolences to the Apcarian family during this difficult time. As the investigation continues, we urge everyone to remain cautious and vigilant behind the wheel, ensuring the safety of ourselves and others on the road.
