In a statement on Thursday (9/1/2025), Director General of Sea and Fishery Resource Supervision at KKP, Pung Nugroho, confirmed that the barrier was built without a permit from the ministry. Speaking on board the KKP’s patrol vessel, Orca, he declared, "This barrier does not have a permit (PKK-PRL) from KKP. Based on the Minister’s instructions, we must act swiftly and responsibly. The nation cannot afford to lose."

The barrier has been disrupting the activities of local fishermen, many of whom rely on boats with engine capacities of only 2-3 GT. One fisherman expressed his struggle, saying, "At night, we have difficulty navigating due to this barrier. It’s really tough for us."

KKP has given the responsible parties 20 days to remove the barrier voluntarily. Failure to comply may result in government intervention to dismantle the structure. Director General Pung underscored, "We want to give them the chance to remove it themselves. However, if they refuse, we will not hesitate to take action."

The decision to swiftly address the issue came after President Prabowo Subianto issued a directive to maintain government authority. Pung explained, "The President’s instructions were clear: we must act quickly and decisively to uphold the government’s credibility."

KKP is still investigating the parties responsible for constructing the barrier, which started at 7 km in length last August 2024 and extends to its current 30 km. The ministry has warned against any further attempts to erect barriers in the area, stressing that such activities are prohibited without proper permits.
