New Amazon Android Kids Tablets: What’s New and Where to Buy

Amazon has officially launched its all-new Amazon Kids Tablets, departing from the old Fire OS ecosystem to build its devices directly on Google’s Android operating system. The fresh lineup includes 8.7-inch and 11-inch models, with preorders currently open starting at $229.99.

The new devices change the e-commerce company's tablet strategy, as it replaces custom forked software with parent-managed Google Play Store access and AI-powered tools like Storybuilder.

Preorders Start at $229.99 with October Shipping

Preorders are live now, with the 8.7-inch model starting at $229.99 and the 11-inch version starting at $329.99. Official shipping for these devices begins on October 14. Both models ship complete with a protective bumper case, a two-year worry-free guarantee, and a full year of Amazon Kids+.

Two Models Offer Different Screen Sizes and Features

Built specifically for smaller hands and life on the go, the 8.7-inch tablet features up to 14 hours of battery life, 64GB of storage, and a built-in blue-light filter. Its soft, easy-to-hold case comes in designs including Paw Patrol, Barbie, and SpongeBob.

Meanwhile, the larger 11-inch model is designed for older kids needing assistance with homework, digital drawing, or heavier games. It features an 11-inch 2.5K display, packs 8GB of RAM, and adds stylus support to turn the screen into a digital notebook and drawing canvas.

Parental Tools Manage Screen Time and App Access

This tool lets adults set bedtime limits, require educational goals before playtime, pause the screen entirely, and approve new app downloads through parent-approved Google Play Store access.

The included 1-year Kids+ subscription provides ad-free access to games, shows, and books from characters like Blippi, Peppa Pig, and Hello Kitty, alongside learning tools such as Khan Academy Kids and Stories with Alexa.
