Title: New Year’s Day Marred by Violence and Domestic Incidents in Rosario and Surrounding Areas
As the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Day, Rosario and its surrounding regions in Argentina found themselves dealing with an unsettling wave of violence and domestic incidents. Sources from the Ministry of Security and the Regional Police Unit II confirmed multiple episodes of aggression, weapons-related attacks, and gender-based violence that occurred well into the early morning hours.
Gunshots and Assaults in Rosario
The first hours of the new year saw a disturbing increase in conflict and tension among neighbors and family members. In one such incident, a 39-year-old woman was admitted to the Hospital Centenario with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. The assault, which took place in the 1814 al 4000 pasaje (Camilo Aldao and Doctor Riva) in the Roca neighborhood, on the western side of the city, remains shrouded in mystery.
Later, at around 6 AM, a report was made from J.J. Pérez al 2400 in the Nuevo Alberdi neighborhood, where a man was seen assaulting a woman in a nearby alley. Police officers swiftly intervened and apprehended the 21-year-old suspect, taking him to the 10th Precinct. The victim was transported to the Hospital Alberdi to treat her injuries.
In another incident, a woman was detained in the 732 al 1200 pasaje in the Travesía neighborhood after allegedly threatening and assaulting a neighbor with an iron bar. The victim was taken to the Hospital Alberdi for treatment. Additionally, a woman was admitted to the Hospital Clemente Álvarez after her ex-partner allegedly attacked her with a broken bottle, leaving her with a cut on her right arm. The incident occurred in the 4200 block of Lavalle, in the southwestern part of the city.
The new day brought more grim news: a young man in his early 20s was found unconscious and injured at the 1400 bis block of Olavarría, Empalme Graneros neighborhood, after an apparent beating. He was rushed to the Hospital Eva Perón. Around the same time, a 24-year-old man was brought to the Hospital de Granadero Baigorria with multiple stab wounds to his head and abdomen, after an altercation in Puerto Gaboto. His prognosis was listed as critical.
Violence in Villa Gobernador Gálvez
The spirit of renewal that accompanies a new year did not reach Villa Gobernador Gálvez, as the area also grappled with several violent episodes and injuries. In the 2300 block of Nahuel Huapi, Colon Aguirre neighborhood, two assailants on a motorcycle reportedly opened fire on a group of people, striking Emanuel F. (35) in the abdomen. He was taken to the Hospital Gamen, where his non-life-threatening wound was treated. Police sources confirmed the identities of the presumed attackers.
At 9 AM, Milagros A. (20) was admitted to the Hospital Provincial suffering from a hemothorax caused by a gunshot wound. The incident took place at the intersection of Maipú and 17 de Octubre, in the Mendoza neighborhood. Later, a nearby residence in the intersection of Maipú and Centenario found itself targeted by multiple gunshots, with the owner awakening to the sound of bullets striking her front door.
Elsewhere, a severely injured man sought help from a nearby newsstand and reported being stabbed multiple times after an altercation with his partner’s family. The victim, a 29-year-old named Brian S., suffered wounds to his chest and clavicle during the assault in a field near Los Paraísos street. He was promptly admitted to the Hospital Provincial for further treatment.
As the sun rose on the first day of the New Year, the echoes of violence and conflict continued to resonate through Rosario and its surrounding regions. Authorities are investigating these incidents and their underlying causes, determined to maintain safety and security for the community.
