VARNA, BULGARIA — Residents of Varna and its surrounding regions woke up today to a power outage that left thousands without electricity. The blackout, which started around 6 AM, has disrupted daily routines, caused businesses to temporarily close, and left authorities scrambling to restore power as quickly as possible.
The cause of the outage is still under investigation, but officials from the National Electricity Company (NER) have confirmed that it was not due to a failure in the regional substation. "We are working diligently to identify the root cause and restore power to all affected areas," said a spokesperson for NER.
The power cut has affected major cities and towns in the region, including Varna, Burgas, and Stara Zagora. According to reports, some hospitals have switched to backup generators, and public transportation has been disrupted, causing long queues at bus and tram stops.

This is not the first time Varna and its surrounding regions have experienced a large-scale power outage. In January 2025, a similar incident affected the city of Varna, highlighting the urgent need for improvements in the region’s electricity infrastructure.
