Headline: Norwegian Train Operators Demand Compensation After Massive Disruption; Bane Nor Under Fire
train services remained severely disrupted on Tuesday evening, with some passenger trains resuming operations but leading operators expressing dissatisfaction. The situation, which began in the morning, left travelers stranded and frustrated, with train companies points of fingers at infrastructure provider Bane Nor.
Go Ahead, SJ Norway, and Vy all indicated they would submit claims to Bane Nor for the disruption, according to Norwegian broadcaster TV2. The operators cited added costs due to the halt in services, which included hiring extra personnel to assist passengers and organize alternative transportation.
Oda Riska, communication manager for Go Ahead, which operates the Sørtoget line, stated, "We usually submit a claim to Bane Nor when the issue is their responsibility. They typically cover a portion of the costs," adding that such incidents are "incredibly frustrating and disheartening."
Randi Ness, communication director at SJ Norway, echoed Riska’s sentiments, expressing that all train operators would likely seek compensation. "At this point, we don’t have an overview of the total additional expenses," Ness said.
Vy also indicated they would address potential claims with Bane Nor post-incident. Kaja Rynning Moen, press spokesperson for Vy, reported that they had incurred significant extra costs on buss and taxi services to assist passengers.
Meanwhile, Bane Nor has been facing criticism for its handling of the situation. A recent report suggested that the company had not successfully rectified the fault that caused the breakdown (Source: FVN.no). Further details on Bane Nor’s response to the claims remain uncertain.
