Zacatecas Subsecretary of Livestock Slain on Christmas Day

Zacatecas, Mexico – Juan Francisco Bañuelos Márquez, subsecretary of Livestock of the Zacatecas State Secretariat, was shot dead on Wednesday, December 25. The state’s Attorney General’s Office confirmed the killing occurred around 2:20 PM local time in the La Tinaja locality of the Valparaíso municipality.

Upon receiving the report, investigators from the Zacatecas Attorney General’s Office, accompanied by state and military police, rushed to the scene. They conducted crime scene processing and are currently carrying out terrestrial and aerial reconnaissance in the area. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided through official channels.

The Zacatecas government, led by Governor David Monreal, expressed its condolences to the victim’s family and urged the state’s Attorney General’s Office to investigate the case thoroughly to ensure justice is served.

This killing follows a Christmas Eve shooting in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, where two people, including the president of the San Mateo fair’s patronate, were killed, and two others wounded during a traditional celebration known as the Teopancalaquis.
