Headline: Severe Snow Warning Issued for parts of Southern Norway; Vegtrafikksentralen Urges Caution on Hovden

In a press release on Sunday, Vegtrafikksentralen issued a severe snow warning for parts of Southern Norway and the southernmost regions of Vestlandet, with Siri Wiberg, a meteorologist on duty, confirming the news to Fædrelandsvennen. The weather forecast predicts snowfall of up to 5-25 centimeters, with localized areas in the mountains receiving up to 25-50 centimeters.

"We’re expecting snow in Hovden in the late afternoon," said Wiberg. Initially, this snowfall may appear as slush, but it’s set to transform into proper snow as temperatures drop. Wiberg is confident that the snow conditions will be excellent for sports enthusiasts, as temperatures are expected to decrease from December 30 until January 6, bringing potential snowfall even to coastal areas.

Three Key Tips for Motorists

Kenneth Gunleikskås, a traffic operator for Vegtrafikksentralen, advised motorists traveling to Hovden for the New Year celebrations, saying, "It will be cold, perfect for ski enthusiasts." He stated that the snow warning is standard and not exceptionally alarming.

Gunleikskås shared three essential tips for drivers heading to Hovden and other mountainous regions:

  1. Equip your vehicle with good winter tires.
  2. Allocate ample time for your journey.
  3. Drive according to road conditions.
