It is no secret to anyone that the top managers of NVIDIA are subjects really attracted by the possibilities and the economic-recreational potential of the Metaverse promoted by Meta and Mark Zuckerberg.
In November, the company specializing in graphics cards spoke directly of their enthusiasm for this project and now they have taken the Consumer Electronics Show, CES 2022, as the stage to make an important announcement.
We are talking about the launch of the free and open version of NVIDIA Omniverse, a platform that opens up a wide number of possibilities in this nascent trend focused on virtual worlds. And that now has free access.
What is the NVIDIA Omniverse
Broadly speaking, the NVIDIA Omniverse could be described as a platform for virtual simulation and 3D design collaboration in real time. There artists, designers and creators can run applications in this environment to create assets, 3D scenes, elements and whatever they can imagine for their projects.
The Omniverse beta has been running for almost a year now with a select few users. But now in the framework of CES 2022 the company has opened access with the launch of the official website of the platform.
So NVIDIA Omniverse is now available to the millions of active NVIDIA Studio creators using GeForce RTX and NVIDIA RTX cards.
Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, simulation systems and scalable computing come together in this system that aims to be much more robust than a curious virtual collaborative environment with a fast asset renderer surrounded by shops, homes, “people”, robots, factories and museums .
To begin with, today there are more than 14 connectors for programs such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya and even Unreal Engine. But more is on the way, like the long-awaited connector for working with 3D materials from Adobe Substance.
At the same time, new functions are integrated into NVIDIA Omniverse, such as Nucleus Cloud that allows you to share Omniverse 3D scenes quickly for collaborative sessions. In the purest style of a regular session in a Google Drive spreadsheet.
Also adding are asset libraries such as Shutterstock’s TurboSquid, CGTrader, Sketchfab, and Twinbru, with many more on the way.
Not to mention Omniverse Machinima, focused on game development with new characters, objects, resources and free environments from titles like Mechwarrior 5, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and Squad. Which will turn the Omniverse into a huge sandbox to unleash projects or test items.
Creators will be able to download NVIDIA Omniverse for free now.
