The four-time Olympic skier popped the question following a year of long-distance dating between Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia, before the couple relocated to New York last year.
The Mallorca Cliffside Proposal Details
According to Kenworthy’s interview with People, the engagement took place after the couple traveled to attend Berlin Pride for a friend’s birthday and Amsterdam for World Pride. They planned a decompression trip to Mallorca, where Kenworthy executed a surprise proposal on a cliffside.
“We took a private dinghy from the pier at the St. Regis where we were having a cocktail by the beach at the Mar Sea Club,” Kenworthy told People. He added that he told Rigby they were going on an adventure before hiking to the top of the cliffs.

Kenworthy planned ahead by bringing Rigby’s favorite drink to the cliffside. “I organized for a picnic blanket to be waiting for us with a pitcher of margaritas — extra sweet because that’s how Andrew orders them,” Kenworthy stated to People.
Following the proposal, the couple boarded a chartered boat where six of their close friends were hiding to surprise them, according to Kenworthy’s interview. Rigby admitted he was entirely unaware of the plan, telling People, “To say I was shocked was an understatement.”
The couple now wears Cartier rings—gold for Kenworthy and platinum for Rigby. Kenworthy officially announced the engagement on August 5 on his Instagram account with photos of the proposal and the caption, “He said he’d think about it!”
