Explosions at Breda’s Boerke Verschuren Café: Owner Racing Back from Vacation to Face Devastation
Operator of the popular Breda café, Johan de Vos, had hoped for a relaxing weekend in France. However, news of twin explosions at his establishment – Boerke Verschuren – brought him rushing back, awakening to a startling reality. "You don’t wake up feeling fine," he shared, recalling the:{2} Friday’s terrifying events.
On his return, De Vos opened the café, showcasing timber panels on windows damaged by the blasts. He remains composed, supported by local residents and even finding the humor: "I can stand jiggling, but that doesn’t fix the problem." Despite the setback, he is determined to refurbish and reopen swiftly.
Vos previously served as chairman of Koninklijke Horeca Breda, adding a layer of community connections to his resilience. Witnesses, through shared WhatsApp footage, observed two powerful blasts and a hooded figure on the premises just prior. However, visibility was obstructed due to parasols and as such, the figure’s actions and companionship remain unclear.
While the municipality of Breda could theoretically shut down his premise, following such incidents, De Vos believes this scenario unlikely. He’s currently pursuing official police reports, awaiting further information on potential culprits.
