Ten Police Officers Imprisoned for Illegal Searches, Assaults, and Theft
Ten police officers from the Radioelectric Command have been arrested and sentenced to preventive imprisonment for their involvement in a wide range of crimes, including illegal searches, assaults, and theft. This was revealed in a hearing held on Friday, where the officers were found guilty based on extensive evidence presented in 14 judicial cases.
The officers, who wereittated in various Buenos Aires neighborhoods, are accused of targeting vulnerable individuals who had previous run-ins with the law or had family members involved in criminal activities. The fiscal prosecutor, Luis Caterina, explained that the defendants were unable to refute the overwhelming evidence presented against them.
The officers reportedly justified their criminal behavior as a means to assert their dominance on the streets, targeting those they perceived as deserving of such treatment. The evidence against them includes testimony from victims who were initially charged with crimes such as weapon possession and resisting arrest, but were later acquitted due to irregularities in the police reports.
The investigation relied on a multifaceted approach, including information triangulation from 911 records, police vehicle location data, handheld devices, and internal police communications during procedures. The officers’ contradictory statements during interviews also played a significant role in their conviction.
Moreover, preliminary investigations suggest that at least two of the officers may have ties to organized crime groups, including "Los Pimpis" and a splinter faction of the "Los Monos" gang. However, the fiscal prosecutor stated that the exact nature and intent of these connections remain unclear.
The officers are suspected of conducting illegal investigations for personal gain, such as smuggling drugs or weapons, or to gather information for their criminal associates. Regardless of their motives, the officers’ actions have resulted in serious crimes against vulnerable members of society.
