"Holiday Feast Costs:вшего:As Christmas approaches, families are starting to plan their festive feasts, but the cost of groceries continues to rise. According to the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), in Bulgaria, the cost of a Christmas dinner basket is practically 10 Lev higher in PLOVDIV than in BLAGOEVGRAD.
The basket includes 2 kg of boneless pork, a frozen chicken, rice, potatoes, sauerkraut, tomatoes, peppers, fruits, snacks, dried fruits, rakia – 700 ml, a bottle of red wine, champagne and non-alcoholic beverages.
The cost of this basket in BLAGOEVGRAD is 155.73 Lev, while in PLOVDIV it is 164.39 Lev. RUSE residents pay only 13 Stotinki less than their PLOVDIV counterparts, making RUSE the second most expensive city for this shopping list. VARNA and LOVECH follow, with the basket costing exactly 160 Lev in both cities.
SOFIA appears to be on par with HASSKOVO and BURGA, with the totals around 158-159 Lev. The highest expense is the meat, with 2 kg of pork cutlets ranging from 30 Lev/kg in BURGA and MONTANA to 32-22 Lev/kg in LOVECH and BLAGOEVGRAD.
The frozen chicken is most expensive in RUSE, exceeding 12 Lev for 1.4 kg, while MONTANA has the lowest price, at 10.64 Lev.
Compared to last year, the Christmas dinner basket has increased by 6-7 Lev, and compared to 2022, the total cost has risen by 10-12 Lev.
