Galevind i Nord-Norge: Straumveier stengt og flere fergeanløp droppet
Strong winds are battering parts of North Norway, with several roads closed, and some Hurtigruten sailings cancelled.
Residents of North Troms and parts of Finnmark are warned to expect winds of 33-40 metres per second on New Year’s Day, with full or strong gales expected along the coast.
The Sandnessund Bridge, connecting Tromsø and Kvaløya, has been completely closed as of 5 PM, according to the Vegtrafikkssentralen on X. Just half an hour earlier, Troms police reported that several drivers ignored the temporary closures and attempted to cross the bridge.
The ferry on E6 between Bognes and Skarberget has been suspended, along with several other routes, including E69 from Skarsvåg to Nordkapped. Hurtigruten ship Kong Harald will also omit stops at Risøyhamn, Sortland, Stokmarknes, Svolvær, and Stamsund on New Year’s Day.
Several other roads, including the E6 Sennalandet pass in Alta/Hammerfest and E6 Hatter in Hammerfest/Porsanger, are also closed due to the storm. Additionally, multiple sections of E69 and several county roads are affected. Vegvesenet has announced that a reassessment will be made at 3 AM on New Year’s Day.
Strong winds are also expected in Nordland and Troms on New Year’s Day, with orange alerts issued for severe gusts in these areas as well.
