The Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement Paank has strongly condemned a continuing pattern of enforced disappearances, custodial torture, and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.
Enforced Disappearances and Fatal Recoveries in Balochistan
According to Paank, the four recent cases reflect a disturbing pattern in which Baloch men are detained or forcibly disappear, kept beyond judicial oversight, and later found dead. These incidents have left affected families without answers and without access to justice. The organisation stated that these events cannot be viewed in isolation, describing them as part of a broader network of secret detentions, torture, extrajudicial killings, and the deployment of state-backed death squads against civilians in the region.
Specific Cases Highlighted by Paank
The organisation detailed four specific deaths that underscore the crisis. Paank alleged he was targeted by state-backed death squads shortly after his daughter publicly raised concerns regarding threats and harassment directed at her, appealing to authorities for protection. Paank described this killing as deeply alarming and indicative of reprisals against family members who speak out.
He remained missing until July 31, when his body was recovered from the Newan Koor area. Paank noted that his body was returned to his family instead of the breadwinner they had been waiting for.
Attahullah Baloch, a 35-year-old resident of Kodask, Khuzdar, was forcibly disappeared on March 24, 2026, from Panjgur by personnel of the ISI, CTD, and MI, according to Paank. The organisation stated he remained in illegal detention and torture cells for nearly three months before being extrajudicially killed on June 21, 2026, in Panjgur, denied access to independent courts, legal representation, and judicial protection.
The fourth case involves Haibatan, a resident of Bela and son of Malo Marri. Paank stated that Haibatan was taken from Bela Cross on July 9, 2026. His body was later recovered from a roadside near Gharibabad on the Hub-Sakran Road in Lasbela, bearing signs of torture and gunshot wounds.
Accountability and Potential Next Steps
Paank has demanded that those responsible for taking Attahullah Baloch and other victims into custody and subsequently killing them must be identified and held accountable through an independent judicial process.
