In a tragic turn of events, María Marta Landívar, a 38-year-old psychologist, moved from Ayacucho to Pinamar seeking a quieter life. However, her new beginning was brutally cut short when she was found shot dead in the duplex she was renting at the exclusive Golf Chico neighborhood on May 19, 2012. The cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the clavicle that damaged her aorta.
More than a decade later, the primary suspect in Landívar’s murder has been apprehended by detectives from the Policía Federal Argentina (PFA). Santiago Nicolás Mallol, a 37-year-old man known by the alias "Pipa", was taken into custody in Mar del Plata.
Initially, investigations pointed towards a former municipal official who had been in a relationship with the victim. However, he was released due to lack of evidence. Over time, the hypothesis shifted towards a robbery gone wrong, and Mallol emerged as a person of interest among seven suspects.
The case was later taken over by the Superintendencia de Investigaciones Federales of the PFA. Their diligent work managed to place "Pipa" at the crime scene and revealed that he was part of a fraudulent network with an outstanding arrest warrant from the Dolores judicial department.
Fiscal Diego Benzi issued an arrest warrant for Mallol, and investigators from the PFA used his frequent purchases at specific Mar del Plata stores to trace his digital footprint. They identified a series of IP addresses linked to a virtual store, narrowing down his location to a specific area.
Acting on this information, homicide division agents saturated the region and discovered that Mallol resided in the same block as one of the stores he frequently visited. They set up a discreet surveillance and managed to intercept him as he left his temporary residence, leading to his detention.
Mallol was subsequently transported to Dolores courts for his indictment on Tuesday. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the long-drawn-out case of María Marta Landívar, hopefully providing her family with the closure they deserve.
