Police Carry Out Raid in Klepp as Part of Ongoing Investigation
Local police executed a search warrant at a residence in Klepp as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting incident that occurred earlier this week. The bomb squad provided support to ensure that there were no explosives present in the property.
In a update published at 2:19 PM, police confirmed that the bomb squad had concluded its examination of the residence and that it is now clear for further criminal technical investigations.
Leading the operation, inspector Torleif Paulsen, confirmed to Stavanger Aftenblad that the raid was targeted specifically at the suspect‘s residence. "We acted against the house where the suspect was staying – simply because it was where the suspect was residing," Paulsen stated.
However, Paulsen declined to comment on whether any evidence had been found at the scene. "Unfortunately, I cannot comment on that," he said.
When asked about the decision to involve the bomb squad, Paulsen explained, "It was mainly for security reasons, as we didn’t know what to expect inside the house. The same applies for the health personnel and the fire department. We always prefer to call out more people than less in situations like these."
The scene was heavily policed, with multiple resources from various services, including ambulances, fire fighters, and police officers, deployed in the area.
Tragically, a 20-year-old police officer and a 40-year-old suspect died following the gunfire exchange. Another police officer was injured and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing.
