Fugitive Still at Large: Police Investigate Possible Ties to Local Break-ins
More than a week since his daring escape, a notorious criminal remains on the loose, evading authorities in the Hustadvika area. The 37-year-old Moroccan national, convicted for over 150 thefts across southern Norway, broke out of Hustad prison on Christmas Eve.
The suspected burglaries in the same municipality as the prison have not gone unnoticed by police. "We are looking into these tips, exploring any possible connections to the escaped inmate," says police lawyer Elias Undersåker Enga from the Møre og Romsdal district.
Despite extensive search efforts, the fugitive has remained elusive. Police advise residents with unchecked cottages, houses, or boathouses to inform them of any unusual activity. "Given the recent weather, it’s highly unlikely he’s been living rough," Enga adds.
The escaped prisoner is believed to have damaged a window and fence during his escape. Enga stresses that the primary focus now is on locating the fugitive, and urges the public to report any sightings or tips.
Hustad prison declined to comment on the incident, and NRK’s attempts to reach Kriminalomsorgen in Region West for comment were unsuccessful.
