Breaking News: Inmate Escapes Hustad Prison

Police are on the hunt for a man in his late 30s who escaped from Hustad Prison earlier today. The active search in the Hustadvika area has been called off, but the investigation continues.

"He is still at large, and we are investigating the case," says Sindre Molnes of the police.

The inmate reportedly escaped at 6:15 AM this morning. Upon receiving the alert, police immediately initiated a search operation.

Public Assistance Sought

Now, authorities are appealing to the public for help. If you spot the man, please contact the police on 02800.

Description of the Escaped Inmate

The man was last seen outside the prison walls, along the main road towards Brynhallen. He was wearing a black jacket and a red prison jumpsuit.

According to police, no violence or threats were involved in the escape. Investigations are underway to determine if he had an accomplice.

"Our goal is to figure out how he managed to flee the scene," Molnes added, encouraging the public to share any relevant information.

Planned Escape Unclear

The escaped inmate was serving time for financial crimes. Molnes refused to speculate on whether the escape was planned, stating that the investigation would shed light on that.

"We have observations of him at the time he escaped, and we have video footage of him outside the prison," Molnes revealed.

Hustad Prison, situated in Hustadvika municipality, has facilities for both low and high-security inmates, with a total capacity of 60 prisoners.
