Article:
Buenos Aires, Argentina — A significant power outage has affected the Greater Buenos Aires area, leaving nearly 55,000 users without electricity, according to the official website of the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) on Wednesday afternoon.
Edesur, the electricity distributor in the capital and several surrounding areas, reported that the neighborhoods of Almagro, Balvanera, Recoleta, and San Nicolás in Buenos Aires are experiencing power cuts due to issues with the medium tension network. The impacted cities in the Buenos Aires province are Almirante Brown, Avellaneda, Berazategui, Florencio Varela, Lanús, Lomas de Zamora, and Quilmes.
In an initial statement, Edesur blamed the outage on "a failure in the generation of energy" that affected the Azucénaga and Paraná substations. However, they later updated their report, indicating that the affected substations had been restored and power was being restored in the affected areas.
At its peak, the power outage affected nearly 100,000 users across Edesur and Edenor, the main power distribution companies in the region.
Edenor, the other major electricity distributor in the area, reported that only the Colegiales neighborhood in Buenos Aires was affected. Additionally, neighbors in Belgrano and Palermo faced low voltage outages. In the Buenos Aires province, the affected cities include Escobar, General Rodríguez, La Matanza, Merlo, Moreno, and San Fernando.
As the situation evolves, electricity companies urge the public to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines regarding power outages. They also remind residents that any information about power disruptions can be found on their official websites or through their social media channels.
This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available.
