In a humble and introspective tone, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) marked its 52nd anniversary, prioritizing substance and ideology over lavish celebrations. The party chose to abstain from inviting President Prabowo Subianto, focusing instead on internal reflection and community engagement.
PDIP’s Central Leadership Board (DPP) Chairman, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, announced that the annual event, held on January 10, 2025, was kept simple to avoid extravagance, especially given the challenging economic climate. "Given the state of our nation’s economy, we didn’t want the party to appear insensitive by throwing a lavish celebration," Djarot stated during a press conference at the DPP headquarters on January 9, 2025.
The party’s anniversary theme, "Satyam Eva Jayate" (Truth Alone Triumphs), was complemented by the sub-theme "Api Perjuangan Nan Tak Kunjung Padam" (The Unquenchable Flame of Struggle). Djarot emphasized that the HUT was an introspective moment for the party, meant for internal reflection and renewed commitment to its ideology.
Although President Prabowo was not invited to the anniversary celebration, Djarot clarified that the President would be invited during PDIP’s subsequent congress, citing the HUT as an internal party affair. The anniversary event saw the distribution of 150 tumpeng (rice cakes) directly to the public, communities, and Kristianesees around the party headquarters. Similar events were held at regional party offices.
PDIP also encouraged local party branches to visit senior party members and former leaders of the Indonesian National Party (PNI), honoring PNI’s role as one of PDIP’s founding parties. The anniversary was merely the first of a series of events leading up to May 2025, including festivals, seminars, and cultural activities.
By maintaining a humble and meaningful celebration, PDIP hopes to reaffirm its commitment to its members and the public, remaining true to its struggle for a better Indonesia.
