In the coastal town of Zandvoort, a devastating fire has claimed Bernie’s Beachclub, a popular venue adjacent to the Circuit Zandvoort and co-owned by Prins Bernhard Junior and Menno de Jong. The incident took place yesterday evening, leaving the building virtually destroyed.

The blaze, which engulfed the beachfront club, is suspected to be the work of arsonists. Police have detained three minors on suspicion of involvement, with two more suspects at large. Witnesses reported seeing a group of five individuals near the club shortly before the fire broke out.

The building was extensively damaged, with firefighters battling the flames and high amounts of smoke that prompted an NL-alert for nearby residents to close windows and doors, and to switch off air conditioning. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

"The floor has caved in, so the interior can no longer be accessed to fight the fire," revealed a spokesperson from the Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland. A large racing wheel was one of the few items salvaged from the wreckage.

This is the second incident of its kind in Zandvoort within a brief period. In late August, the Hippie Fish restaurant was also consumed by flames, with the fire being discovered the following morning by a cleaner.

As the investigation into yesterday’s fire continues, police appeal to anyone with information to come forward. The cause of the fire, as well as the motivations of the suspected arsonists, remains under scrutiny.
