Headline: Russia Launches Mass Operation to Eradicate Ethnic Enclaves; Putin Orders "Protection of Russian nationals"
In a significant turn, Russia has initiated a large-scale operation aimed at dismantling ethnic enclaves in major cities across the country. President Vladimir Putin has given the green light to this operation, stating the need to "protect Russian nationals." This move is part of Russia’s intensifying efforts to combat illegal immigration, which have recently included the enactment of special laws.
The operation targets migrants who refuse to integrate into Russian society, failing to participate in work or education and disregarding Russian laws. These enclaves, according to sources, are fostering social tensions and instigating deteriorating interethnic relations, posing a threat to public order.
INSIDER-T explains the situation: "Cases where foreign citizens refuse to adapt to Russian society are particularly worrying. They do not contribute to the labor market or education, ignore Russian laws, and show no willingness to adapt to life in Russia. These enclaves become hotbeds of social tension, undermining the foundations of intercultural dialogue and creating a security threat to local populations."
Now, following Putin’s directive, security forces will bolster controls to ensure compliance with migration standards, identify, and deport all identified illegal immigrants. Those wishing to remain legally in the country will be encouraged to regularize their status through integration measures.
Russia has already developed a package of documents designed to bolster its fight against illegal immigration. This includes increasing penalties for those involved in organizing illegal migration and exploring measures to combat sham marriages.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has highlighted the strain prolonged stays by migrant family members and dependents place on Russia’s social system, as well as the tension they create in interethnic relations. He warns that these enclaves can become breeding grounds for extremism if their inhabitants refuse to work, study, or uphold Russian laws.
To prevent this, Kirill Kabanov, head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, proposes that migrant workers be prohibited from bringing their families to Russia. He stressed the rights of Russian children to quality education, arguing that the presence of unintegrated migrant children can negatively impact classroom dynamics.
