Politicians Only Talk About Energy When There’s a Crisis, Says DPS Deputy

Bulgarian politics only discuss energy when there’s a crisis, according to DPS – "Democracy for Rights and Freedoms" deputy, Ramadan Atalay. He shared his thoughts with BNR, warning about the potential manipulation of the energy sector for political gain.

Atalay criticized those who capitalize on situations to demand resignations, stating, "The difficult part is to ensure that the energy sector works normally in the country." He suspects that Deputy Prime MinisterДелян Пеевски aims to gain control over power distribution companies (ESOs). "First, they want to nationalize them, and later, privatize them again," warned Atalay, suggesting that the ultimate goal is personal enrichment.

The deputy attributed the energy supply problems during the Christmas and New Year holidays to the neglect of the electricity transmission network and lack of supervision from the Ministry of Energy. He argued that grid checks should be conducted before winter, not afterwards.

Atalay was categorical that his party’s support for a regular government would not be unconditional. He stated, "We are the red line that can stop those who won the elections unfairly with corporative approaches." He advised Prime Minister Boyko Borissov not to fear the consequences of protecting Peevski, as his "jester" act would eventually backfire on his supporters. Atalay stressed that Bulgaria must prioritize democracy moving forward.
