President Claudia Sheinbaum Dismisses Rumors of Hacienda Secretary’s Departure

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo addressed rumors today that Secretary of Hacienda y Crédito Público, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, is planning to step down in February. She categorically denied the reports.

In a press conference, President Sheinbaum stated, "These are just rumors. We meet every Monday, and he hasn’t expressed any intentions of leaving." The speculation was fueled by various opinion columns suggesting differences with the current administration led to his decision.

When asked about the budget deficit adjustment for 2025, President Sheinbaum clarified that it was designed in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance to "tighten our belts," but not in the same manner as neoliberal governments of the past. She emphasized that unlike previous administrations, this government would not implement cuts to social spending. "The Fourth Transformation ensures that our social programs are secure and will not be affected," Sheinbaum remarked.
