Rescue Operations Concluded After Rocket Strikes on Zaporizhzhia: 13 Dead, 63 Injured

In a brazen attack, Russian forces targeted the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia with guided bombs, causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage. The strike occurred on January 8, 2025, at around 15:40 local time.

According to the Ukrainian National Police, two guided bombs (FAB-500 with UMPK) were launched, exploding in densely populated areas near an administrative building and a roadway. The blasts ignited a building and several vehicles.

As of 19:30, authorities reported 13 fatalities and 32 injured. Most victims were civilians going about their daily lives on the streets and in public transportation. The attack also damaged 28 vehicles, including a tram and a minibus.

Emergency services managed to extinguish a fire in an administrative building and three vehicles, with a total area of 800 square meters affected.

In an update at 20:30, the National Police confirmed that search and rescue operations had concluded. The death toll rose to 13, with 33 injured, and five people were rescued by emergency services.

By 21:20, the police reported that the number of injured had increased to 63, with some receiving medical assistance on-site and others seeking help independently at medical facilities.

Earlier in the day, Russian occupying forces had already targeted an industrial facility in Zaporizhzhia.
