The Biden administration is preparing to unveil the final military aid package for Ukraine on Thursday, January 9, worth $500 million. However, this announcement leaves approximately $3.8 billion unspent from the original Potenza Defense Assistance (PDA) budget, despite earlier promises by the White House to exhaust the funds before President Biden’s term ends.
Sources from the Pentagon confirm that the unutilized funds will transition to the control of the incoming administration led by President Donald Trump following his inauguration on January 20.
Recently, reports indicated that the United States was poised to declare a substantial military aid package for Ukraine, with the announcement expected to coincide with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s visit to Germany for the "Ramstein" format meeting on January 9. According to two senior U.S. officials cited by AP, this package is slated to be the "final" tranche of assistance from the Biden administration.
Regrettably, according to the same sources, Washington will not be able to expend around $4 billion earmarked for Ukraine within the framework of the Congressional authorized funding.
