No Timeline Set for Free Agency Decision
Rich Paul, the longtime friend and agent of LeBron James, stated on Monday that there is no set timeline for the 41-year-old star to announce his decision regarding his next NBA team. Speaking on the latest episode of “Game Over” with Max Kellerman, Paul emphasized that the decision remains solely in James’ hands and that neither he nor his client feels pressured to accelerate the process.
We're not going to be rushed,
Paul said during the broadcast. It's his choice to make and when he makes the choice, he'll make it.
The update comes as James approaches his 24th NBA season. Three weeks ago, Paul informed the Los Angeles Lakers that James would not return to the franchise for the 2026-27 season, opting instead to enter free agency. While reports have linked James to several organizations, including the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Miami Heat, Paul clarified that teams pursuing the veteran do not need to alter their own offseason plans while waiting for a final answer.
Addressing Team Communication and Speculation
Paul addressed concerns from front-office executives who have reached out to inquire if they should take additional steps to sway James. According to Paul, he has advised these teams that no further action is necessary.

There's been several people to call and say, 'Hey, Rich, is there anything more we should be doing? We could be doing?'
Paul said. And my answer is, 'No. We don't need you to go above and beyond about anything. We understand it. It's clear. All the messages have been sent.'
The agent also pushed back against external speculation that James is intentionally delaying his announcement to generate media attention. Paul dismissed such theories as the lowest hanging fruit
for those lacking genuine information regarding the process. He stressed that the situation is a business decision rather than a “spectacle” or a repeat of his 2010 announcement.
Pressure from the League
The wait has drawn public comment from NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who stated last week at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom: Game Plan Summit that he would like an announcement soon so the league can finalize the upcoming schedule. Paul confirmed that he held a private discussion with Silver regarding those remarks.
I saw Adam in New York and we discussed it,
Paul said. And like I said, it's still his choice. So if he doesn't really know, you can't rush it.
Evaluating Potential Landing Spots
While the decision remains pending, the basketball implications of James’ potential landing spots have become a subject of analysis. Regarding the Golden State Warriors, Paul noted that while the team would present a “nightmare” matchup in the playoffs due to the collective experience and basketball IQ of a core that could include James, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green, any such scenario relies heavily on the health and availability of the roster.

Paul said. If they want to fill their roster spots, we're not saying don't fill your roster spots.
