The Cleveland Clinic reports that the disease affects roughly 8,000 people in the United States each year. For Lloyd, the diagnosis arrived in March, according to Seymour’s fundraising page. Doctors identified tumors in his liver, including one positioned dangerously close to a major blood vessel, which prevents surgeons from performing operations to remove the growths.
The health crisis has triggered severe physical complications over the past several months. According to Seymour’s updates, Lloyd has been admitted to the intensive care unit seven times. These hospitalizations included two separate bouts of sepsis, alongside acute complications affecting both his liver and kidneys.

Because of his failing health, Lloyd is completely unable to tour or perform live shows. Seymour noted that losing the ability to play music is devastating for a working musician who relies on the road as a primary source of income. O’Keefe has stopped working outside the home to serve as Lloyd’s full-time caregiver.
“Like most working musicians, Richard is being overwhelmed by crushing medical expenses and the ongoing costs of simply getting through each month while he is unable to work,” Seymour wrote in the fundraiser description. To combat these mounting costs, the GoFundMe campaign was established with an $80,000 goal. As of Aug. 24, contributors have donated more than $53,000.
