Moderate-level flooding has hit the River Chenab at Khanki, Qadirabad, and Chiniot Bridge, alongside the Palkhu Nullah in Wazirabad, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
Current Flood Conditions Across Regional Rivers and Nullahs
Water levels remain elevated across several key waterways. According to the NDMA, low-level flooding conditions continue at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa on the River Indus; Marala and Trimmu on the River Chenab; Balloki and Sidhnai on the River Ravi; and Nowshera on the River Kabul. Additionally, low-level flooding is recorded at Nullah Aik and Palkhu Nullah Cantt Bridge. Meanwhile, the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are currently flowing normally.
Expected Water Level Rises and High-Risk Zones
The NDMA warns that water levels may rise further at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, and Chiniot Bridge on the River Chenab within the next twenty-four hours. Furthermore, water levels at Trimmu Barrage on the River Chenab could climb to moderate flood levels during this same window. Over the next twenty-four to forty-eight hours, there is a risk of sudden flooding in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, as well as in rain-fed streams across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. Urban centers face distinct threats as well; the NDMA highlights a risk of urban flooding in Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Multan, Hafizabad, and Lahore.
Official Response and Emergency Directives
In response to the escalating threats, the NDMA has directed relevant departments to ensure continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations. Authorities must also maintain the readiness of emergency response teams and make immediate arrangements for restoring any blocked roads to manage potential disruptions effectively.
