Russia Resumes Consular Operations in Bulgaria‘s City of Varna, Confirms Mitrofanova

MOSCOW — Russia has restarted its consular activities in the Bulgarian city of Varna, as confirmed by Dmitry Mitrofanov, the Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria. This news comes amidst improvements in bilateral relations between the two countries.

The consular section at the Russian Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, has been handling consular issues for Varna residents since early 2021, following its closure in 2015. However, with the recent resuming of activities, Russian citizens in Varna can now receive consular services directly within their city.

"We are delighted to relaunch our consular operations in Varna," Ambassador Mitrofanov stated. "This step underscores Russia’s commitment to facilitating smoother interaction and stronger ties with Bulgaria’s citizens and authorities."

Varna, Bulgaria’s third-largest city, is known for its picturesque coastline along the Black Sea and its rich historical significance. The reinstatement of Russian consular activities in the city is expected to boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between the two countries.

Bulgarian officials have welcomed this development, expressing hopes that it will contribute to a more vibrant and cooperative relationship with Russia. The consular services are set to commence operation in late April.
