Russia‘s Gains on the Eastern Front: Weather HAMPERS Ukrainian Defense, Russia Pushes Towards Oskol River
In a turn of tide, Russia has begun employing armored vehicles and equipment to press their assault on Ukrainian positions, taking advantage of adverse weather conditions. The shift in tactics was disclosed by Major Maxim Jorin, deputy commander of the Third Separate Storm Brigade (3 OSBr), speaking to Hromadske Radio.
Harsh Weather Aids Russian Advance
The Russian attack on the banks of the Oskol River, north of Kupiansk, has intensified, with frequent assaults launched daily. Adverse weather conditions—including heavy rain and frost—have hindered Ukrainian reconnaissance efforts, providing Russian forces cover to maneuver undetected. "The main challenge is the weather," Jorin said, highlighting the dwindling number of Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the difficulty in resuming control of the frontline. The Russian forces have been capitalizing on captured civilian boats to cross rivers stealthily, posing a significant threat to the Ukrainian stronghold of Kupiansk and its outskirts.
Russia’s New Tactic: Technology in the Offensive
Russia’s resort to advanced weaponry has altered the battlefield dynamics. In recent days, Russia has deployed tanks and other armored units near Toretsk and Chasove Yar, a tactic that has proven effective in wearing down Ukrainian defenses. "We see a tank emerge from their positions, fire, and retreat," Anastasia Bobrovnichenko, press secretary of the Operational-Tactical Group "Luhansk," said of the recent Russian strategy.
Despite the setbacks, Ukrainian forces remain resilient, with ongoing efforts to repel Russian advances and restore control over vital territories.
