Emergency Services Battle House Fires After Russian Airstrikes in Ukrainian Region
In the early hours of January 1, 2025, several private homes in a Ukrainian province were ablaze following an enemy attack, according to a local official. The official confirmed that emergency services had rescued a woman from the scene, with teams working tirelessly to contain the blaze.
Earlier that evening, around 10:20 PM, explosions rocked the Zaporizhzhia region. Local authorities attributed these to Russian airstrikes targeting the city of Zaporizhzhia, involving the use of "Shahed" drones. Despite the ongoing aerial assault, officials reported no casualties as of 11:30 PM. Residents were urged to remain in their shelters for their safety.
A state of emergency was declared in the region, and air-raid sirens wailed until 12:41 AM, signaling the all-clear.
Zaporizhzhia Under Siege
The Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia and nearby towns have become frequent targets of Russian attacks. These strikes often employ guided bombs, various types of missiles, and drones.
In late December 2024, a rocket strike caused an explosion in Zaporizhzhia, while earlier that month, Russian forces attacked the city with drones, resulting in injuries and a major fire. On December 10, Russian forces launched a missile strike on the city center, destroying a private hospital and damaging surrounding buildings. The attack claimed seven lives and injured 22 people.
On December 6, a Russian airstrike on the city set fire to an automotive repair shop, causing deaths and injuries. The region has become a humanitarian concern, with ongoing rescue and relief efforts in the aftermath of each attack.
