Syrian Political Activist-Comedian Mohammad Shazar Speaks Up on Assad, Syria‘s Future, and Lebanon Visit
In an exclusive interview with Hussein Mortada on "Spot Shot," Syrian political activist and comedian Mohammad Shazar addressed a range of pressing topics, from his stance on Bashar Al-Assad’s rule to his hopes for Syria’s future and plans for a potential Lebanon visit.
On Inviting Hussein Mortada to Syria:
When asked if he would invite Mortada to Syria for a taste of local cuisine, Shazar playfully responded, "Of course! I’d be happy to treat him to some ‘shish barak’ or ‘kibbeh’ in Damascus. But first, we need to ensure that the political environment allows for such visits safely and comfortably."
On Bashar Al-Assad and Syria’s Future:
Shazar offered a candid perspective on Assad’s rule, stating, "I’ve been critical of the regime’s policies and the nation’s deterioration. But I won’t deny that there’s been some progress in certain areas. We need to build on that and push for real reform, transitional justice, and accountability."
Reflecting on Syria’s future, Shazar expressed cautious optimism, "I’m hopeful that we can achieve a democratic, inclusive Syria where everyone feels represented and respected. But it won’t happen overnight. It’s a long process that requires unity, patience, and persistent effort."
On Planned Lebanon Visit and Message to Hezbollah:
Discussing his potential trip to Lebanon, Shazar shared, "I’ve been invited, and I hope to visit soon. I look forward to connecting with Lebanese people and discussing our shared interests and challenges. I’m all for regional cooperation and unity."
Regarding his message to Hezbollah after the end of the war in Syria, Shazar emphasized, "Let’s focus on rebuilding our communities, promoting peace, and healing the wounds of conflict. Our peoples deserve nothing less."
