Federal Investigators Examine Runway Overrun After Cargo Jet Crash Kills Five

The aircraft cleaning van, which held seven employees of the contractor within airport grounds, was “torn apart” by the impact, according to Homendy. In response to the disaster, airport authorities closed all runways and taxiways, implementing an immediate ground stop at the facility.
Aviation Experts Focus on Landing Zone and Braking Factors
Federal investigators spent the day reviewing video footage that appeared to show the Boeing 767 remaining airborne well down the runway before touching down. Aviation experts note that standard landing zones typically fall within the first 914 meters of a runway. Safety expert Steve Arroyo stated that if a cargo jet lands beyond that threshold, pilots should abort the landing and execute a go-around maneuver.
