Argantina is bracing for a severe weather front, with the National Meteorological Service issuing a ‘yellow alert’ for nine provinces. Residents of Salta, Jujuy, Tucumán, Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza, San Luis, and Córdoba are urged to stay vigilant as the storm makes its way in.
The alert, which began early on Wednesday, warns of isolated but potentially severe thunderstorms. These can bring intense rainfall in short periods, strong winds (exceeding 60 km/h), frequent lightning, and sizeable hailstones. Residents in the northern regions could see up to 40 mm of precipitation, while those in the center could receive up to 45 mm.
The ‘yellow alert’ signifies that while the situation is under control, citizens should still take precautions and stay informed. The recommendations from the National Meteorological Service include avoiding outdoor activities, removing obstacles to water drainage, and staying away from tall, shallow-rooted trees and electrical posts. Residents are also advised to keep an eye out for potential flooding and have an emergency kit prepared.
