Mexico Prepares to Support and Welcome Mexican Citizens in U.S. Amid Possible Mass Deportations
SCARCE DAYS before Donald Trump assumes the presidency of the United States, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) has already initiated dialogues with Central American countries, anticipating potential large-scale migrant deportations.
Since Trump’s campaign promises included stringent immigration policies, Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized her government’s commitment to defending the interests of Mexican citizens living in the U.S. "We will continue to stand up for the rights of our fellow Mexicans and Mexicanas in the U.S.," she stated.
The Mexican president expressed that Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente is actively engaging in discussions with numerous countries, particularly Central American nations, to encourage them to take responsibility for their citizens. While Mexico maintains a robust trade relationship with the U.S. and Canada, Sheinbaum Pardo underscored her administration’s dedication to remaining close to Latin American countries.
The SRE confirmed these diplomatic efforts, indicating that they are working closely with Central American governments to address the possibility of a mass deportation of migrants from the U.S. "We will always be near," the SRE asserted, signaling Mexico’s ongoing commitment to its regional neighbors.
As the political climate along the U.S.-Mexico border continues to evolve, Mexico is redoubling its efforts to safeguard the rights and well-being of its citizens abroad, preparing to offer them a warm welcome if they return home.
