The Sindh government reduced school operating hours by one hour across the province on Wednesday, with the revised schedule taking immediate effect, according to a notification from the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department.

According to a circular issued Wednesday by the Sindh School Education and Literacy Department, school timings prescribed in an earlier notification will “stand reduced by one hour during the prescribed five days’ school-observing week.” The department stated that all other terms, conditions, and directions from the previous circular remain unchanged and fully applicable.
The notification directs all heads of educational institutions and concerned field officers to ensure “strict implementation of the revised school timings in letter and spirit.” According to a spokesperson cited by Geo.tv, the new schedule will remain in force until further orders.
Timeline of Working Week Adjustments in Sindh
The latest adjustment follows a series of changes to school schedules across Sindh over recent months. In late July, the provincial government announced a six-day week for all public and private educational institutions under its administration. However, the next day, officials announced that private schools could decide their weekly teaching and working days according to their own schedules and convenience.
On August 5, the government restored the five-day working week for schools and colleges, reversing its earlier decision.
Earlier in the year, schools in Sindh observed a spring vacation from March 16 to 31, while colleges and universities switched to online classes. Those measures formed part of austerity and fuel conservation efforts adopted to deal with the economic impact of the US-Israeli war on Iran, which also established Saturday and Sunday as off days following the resumption of classes on April 1.

With operating hours now reduced by one hour during the five-day week, educational institutions may need to adjust daily lesson plans to manage curriculum requirements.
