TikTok Video Sparks Debate Over Public Transit Punctuality
A July 6 TikTok video capturing a heated exchange between a bus passenger and driver has ignited discussions about public transit schedules, passenger expectations, and the challenges faced by transit workers. The clip, which shows a passenger questioning the driver’s pace, highlights a tension between commuters and transportation providers.
The Passenger’s Complaint and the Driver’s Response
The incident occurred on a bus. The passenger, who filmed the interaction, argued that the driver’s speed caused him to be late for class. “Driving at your own pace? We have our timing to meet,” the passenger said, according to the video. The driver, wearing a green uniform similar to Tower Transit’s, defended his actions by citing his standard operating procedure (SOP), stating he was scheduled to arrive at the next bus stop at 8.50am and was already five minutes ahead of schedule.
The passenger disputed the driver’s explanation, stating, “This is not SOP. How long are you taking?” The exchange ended with the driver suggesting the passenger could have taken an earlier bus.
Public Reaction: Backing the Driver or the Passenger?
The TikTok video, with comments divided over the incident. Many users supported the driver, emphasizing that bus captains have scheduled timings to adhere to. One commenter wrote, “We all know that bus drivers have a route timing to follow and they cannot be too fast or too slow. Please stop disturbing the driver, you cannot expect him to change his SOP just to suit you.”
Others, however, sympathized with the passenger.
