Title: Snow Causes Chaos in Bergen Area

The Bergen region woke up to a winter wonderland Thursday morning, with snow causing significant disruptions to traffic and public transport. According to trafikkoperatør Arne Viken at Vegtrafikksentralen Vest, there was a significant snowfall overnight, leading to snow-covered roads across the entire Bergen area.

"[The snow] has caused some difficulties, especially on routes with steep hills," Viken said, adding that snow plows were working to clear the roads, but progress was slow.

Earlier Thursday morning, Vest police district reported a collision between a bus and a car in Birkelundsbakken in Bergen. While no one was injured, the crash created traffic bottlenecks and delays.

Bergens Tidende reported that several bus stops in the Bergen area were unstaffed due to lack of snow clearing, leading to canceled buses.

Skyss, the public transport operator in Bergen, confirmed the disruptions, stating that some routes were suspended, and there were delays across the network.

"We urge passengers to allow extra time for their journeys, as travel could be delayed due to snow and ice," said Øyvind Strømmen, Skyss’ press contact.

The weather forecast for the region is not expected to improve anytime soon. The Norwegian Metrological Institute (MET) predicts snowfall to continue throughout Thursday and into Friday, with accumulations of 10 to 30 centimeters expected. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and plan for additional travel time.
