In a delightful twist that prioritizes safety, tranquility, and the environment, the capital city of Bulgaria, Sofia, is rolling out the red carpet for a awe-inspiring light show this New Year’s Eve, ditching the traditional fireworks. This novel approach is aimed at safeguarding the vulnerable, including children, pets, and individuals with health conditions who are sensitive to loud noises.

"We encourage our citizens to embrace the spirit of the new year with this innovative and caring approach," urges the municipality. In recent weeks, the administration has intensified the campaign for a firework-free New Year’s, reminding residents that the use of large fireworks (Categories F2 and F3) is banned in Sofia, with significant fines awaiting violators. These include:

  • Glowballs: A fine ranging from 100 to 300 LV.
  • And/Or an inventive penalty, ranging between 300 LV to 500 LV.

Category F1 pyrotechnics, like sparklers and snap pops, remain unaffected, as their noise levels are considered safe for public use.

Comprising over 10 patrol teams across Sofia, the city’s security detail will be diligent in monitoring and enforcing these regulations throughout the holiday season. Not only will they oversee the ban on fireworks, but also clamp down on illegal sales and trading violations.

With the clock ticking towards 2025, Sofia’s skies will light up with a mesmerizing display of colors and patterns, a dazzling welcome to the new year that everyone can enjoy responsibly. 🎉🎆🎊
