Title: Norwegian Samaritan Clears Snow for Neighbors Amidst Southeast Storm

In the heart of Southern Norway, a man named Lars Erik Nettum is setting an inspiring example of community spirit and mutual aid. When a severe snowstorm hit the region last winter, Nettum offered to shovel snow for his neighbors who lacked the ability or resources to do it themselves. His act of kindness not only provided relief to many but also earned him local recognition.

Community Spirit in Action

"It’s a community where we have to help each other," Nettum told NRK, a Norwegian public broadcaster. "That’s just how it is." With snow piling up in Grimstad, Nettum spent hours clearing paths for those in need, making a real difference in their lives.

"Oh, I got a lot of exercise," Nettum recounts, laughing. But his commitment to helping others doesn’t stop at the memory of last winter’s storm. As another snowstorm approaches, Nettum is prepared to roll up his sleeves and resume his role as a community snow-clearing hero.

Nettum’s kindness was met with warmth and gratitude by the locals. "I got to come inside for coffee and cake, and this and that," Nettum said. "Everyone was very thankful."

Grimstad Mayor Beate Skretting praised Nettum’s initiative. "It’s great that people have consideration for their fellow citizens," Skretting said. The mayor also encouraged more people to lend a helping hand, saying, "It’s great if more people can lend a hand to those who need it."

In neighboring Arendal, Mayor Robert Cornells Nordli echoed Skretting’s sentiments, urging residents to "be good ‘civil defense friends’ to neighbors, friends, and acquaintances who may need help."

Joining the Movement: How Can You Help?

Nettum welcomes anyone in Grimstad or surrounding areas who needs assistance to reach out to him. "As long as you have a need for it and don’t have the ability to do it yourself, that’s all there is to it," he said.

As another snowstorm approaches, Norway’s southeast region is poised to witness the continuation of Nettum’s heartwarming story of community support. One snowflake, one neighbored help at a time.
