Storyline and Setting
Within Masquerade’s walls, the production establishes a portal opening to STARCADIA, a realm inhabited by cosmic storytellers known as The Starpeople. The narrative follows planets meeting at the edge of the universe every cosmic year to share how they have used the sun’s energy. Earth brings news of intelligent life and the fragile beauty of human art and expression, inspiring the celestial bodies to explore artistic connection. As the pain woven into human creation causes Earth to fade, the planets must confront a paradox of creation and destruction that could either heal their discord or deepen it forever.
Character Breakdown and Submission Requirements
Performers applying must submit a headshot, resume, and vocal reel. Additional materials are required for specific roles: a dance reel for Mercury, Neptune, and Uranus, and an instrument reel for applicants who play an instrument. The character breakdown specifies eight roles for actors aged 20 to 60:
- Earth (Ages 20–40): The planet bearing the beauty and burden of life, sharing news of intelligent life; requires a strong singer and instrumentalist.
- Saturn (Ages 40–60): Appointed with power and rings, leading cosmic meetings with tranquility, wisdom, and control; requires a strong singer.
- Mars (Ages 20–40): A blunt, passionate, and polarizing planet of extremes with harsh truths; requires a strong belter.
- Venus (Ages 20–40): Hiding a yearning for Jupiter through golden veils until passing in the sky; requires a strong singer and guitar player.
- Jupiter (Ages 20–40): A storm rather than a star with tragic winds that rage on; requires a skilled painter.
- Mercury (Ages 20–40): Scorched and cratered, zipping around the sun twice daily with unbearably cold nights; requires a strong dancer.
- Neptune (Ages 20–40): Reaching through methane skies with an ego matching its distance from the sun; requires a strong dancer.
- Uranus (Ages 20–40): A sideways planet with an unpredictable orbit masking uncertainty with humor; requires a strong dancer.
