A Major Winter Storm Threatens 62 Million Americans

A powerful winter storm is set to batter the central and eastern United States over the weekend, potentially impacting around 62 million people. The storm, which is expected to last through Monday, will bring heavy snow and rain, creating treacherous conditions from the Great Plains to the East Coast. At least 12 states are expected to be affected, with widespread power outages likely.

The U.S. National Weather Service warns that "for some, this could be the worst snowstorm in more than a decade." Roads have already deteriorated in parts of the central U.S. as temperatures plummet. Heavy snowfall is predicted across a wide swath between central Kansas and Indiana, particularly along the northern stretch of I-70, where up to 20 inches of snow is possible.

As a precaution, a section of I-70 in central Kansas was closed, and the storm is expected to move into the Ohio Valley, causing significant travel disruptions. Kansas City International Airport temporarily halted operations due to ice, delaying several flights, including a chartered plane carrying the Kansas City Chiefs.
