Timeline of the Incident at Westview Plaza
The situation began around 1:30 p.m. at the Westview Shopping Centre on Westview Drive. Witness Arman Abadi, who was inside a McDonald’s at the time, stated he saw a man behind the counter holding a knife to an employee. Abadi described intervening, wrestling the knife away from the suspect, and pinning him against a wall with the help of another individual. According to Abadi, the suspect claimed to have another weapon before fleeing the scene.
Following the encounter in the restaurant, the suspect attempted to steal multiple vehicles in the parking lot. Afshari described the scene as chaotic, noting that officers arrived within minutes of the initial reports.

The incident concluded when the suspect attempted to enter a police vehicle. According to Afshari, the suspect was shot with a rubber bullet by responding officers. The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. has been deployed to the scene to conduct an investigation, as is standard protocol for all officer-involved shootings in the province.
